Welcome to the Cosmic Commute. Tracks 1-10 are the actual Traffic Transformation Exercises you will do. Tracks 11-20 are the “How To” for those tracks. 11 explains track 1, 12 explains track 2, etc.
What is the most stressful time of the day? The time spent commuting. Why? Possibly because we have so little control over what happens to make us late. However, we do have control over what we do with this otherwise wasted time. I started doing these Traffic Transformation Exercises when feeling overworked and overwhelmed . I was desperate - I realized that my body was in revolt. Though I was in a time crunch and needed to keep driving, my body needed some relief immediately.
I was only driving a short distance, but did variations of exercises 2 & 3. By the time I arrived, my body had calmed down and I had the strength to do what had to be done. Soon, any time I was driving, I would play with these and other techniques. And there was no doubt that I would arrive more refreshed and alert than when I started out. This CD is the result of many hours of driving, trying variations and opening myself to the creative angels.
Remember the story of the bricklayers? Someone asked them what they were doing. The first one said, “I’m laying bricks, of course!.” The second one said, “I’m building a wall.” The third one said, “I’m building a cathedral.” Driving doesn’t just have to be a tedious, brick-laying procedure. It can become a treasured time for personal revitalization. And - if you are happier driving, you will be more courteous and radiate less stress. Who knows - you may transform more than just yourself.
Over time I discovered that voicing my intention to dedicate this time to growth enlivened the whole process. Track 1 is a dedication. You may listen, sing along or substitute a dedication of your own.
For all of the exercises, remember “Safety First!” If traffic requires your full attention - stop doing the exercises. If you know a tricky merge is coming up, put the CD on pause. When things calm down, continue or go back to the beginning of the track you were on. If some time has past, start with a choo choo breath, and then go back to where you were. Some exercises use one hand. Only take a hand off the wheel if it is safe to do so. If your voice is not comfortable where I sing, then sing harmony or an octave above or below.
You can, of course, do these exercises at other times. To begin with you will want to do them to the CD. Once you know them, you can do them on your own and, where appropriate, to other music. Most of all - have fun. Develop your own variations. Send your variations and experiences to CosmicCommute@averyniceday.com.
Where helpful, visuals of what an exercise looks like are on the website averyniceday.com. Also, references to books & CDs can be found there. I've even included my favorite wheat free and sugar free recipes.
